Announcing New Hathor Projects!

The original mission of The Hathor Legacy was to demonstrate that plenty of people want to see better portrayals of women and women’s issues in the media. We have a few voices here, but to help turn up the volume, we have a few announcements.

First, head on over to our new links site, Celluloid Sally’s (where all the good women characters hang after work). We’re going to be collecting any links we find that help to make the point that people do expect better. Ideally, it will be updated at least once every couple of days. If you come across (or write!) something, send it to Sally at sally[at]thehathorlegacy[dot]info–we want to find as much as we can, and we certainly don’t have time to finish the internets.

Second, we’d love to increase the diversity of voices here at Hathor, and to that end we’re now looking for guest submissions. If you’ve got an article (or a series) burning through the back of your skull that you think would fit, send it to us at submissions[at]thehathorlegacy[dot]info. We’re accepting submissions for our books and general feminism sites as well as for our main TV/film site, and we even have a handy list of topics we’d love to see covered if you need some extra motivation or ideas. Check out the guidelines page for more information.

Celluloid Sally is currently serving up a Grand Opening special featuring a number of posts about Warner Brothers’ now-retracted statement that the solution to a couple of box office disappointments starring women would be eliminating movies with female leads. It’s worth noting that while we can’t be sure that any policy (current or future) will actually change, the WB is at least embarrassed by this comment and aware that it’s indefensible as a policy. A lot of that has been due to the voices on the internet, both journalists and bloggers, who have publicized and spoken out against it.

So write, read, send links, discuss…if you have any feedback or suggestions, we’d love that too. We’d really like for people to know that there is a large audience unsatisfied with what we’re being given, and anything you have to offer that helps us with that is absolutely welcome.

I’ve added links to Sally’s and the article submission page in the headers of all three sites now. :)
