Commenting
Please note: The Hathor Legacy is dedicated to the discussion of feminist issues. While debate is welcome, “straw men” arguments and other irrelevancies will be edited, deleted or banned, as the admin deems appropriate.
Commenting Guidelines
We reserve the right to edit or delete inappropriate comments, label comments as “trolls” or ban chronic inappropriate commenters, as we see fit to keep the blog free of asshattery. This is mentioned in the comment form every time you submit a comment, so you have been fairly warned. Please follow these simple, fair rules so that these actions don’t have to be taken.
Remember, conflicting opinions are welcome, but there are appropriate ways to express them.
- No flaming. Criticize arguments rather than the people making them.
- No inciting. Comments that serve no purpose other than making people angry will be deleted promptly.
- No gender essentialist comments. This means stating as fact that “women are naturally more submissive than men” or similar sweeping statements. These are not facts, and even as opinions, they are not appropriate for this site. For more info, read this.
- No condescension. This is possibly the least constructive mode of communication. This means remarks like “It’s a pity you don’t understand this” or “You should go help rape victims instead of writing about this unimportant stuff” or stating theories as fact - i.e. “But those rape stats are off - it’s really more like 1 in 25 women.” Cite your source so we can evaluate it for ourselves, or go away.
- No Trolling. Posting off-topic or attempting to derail a discussion into something you’d prefer to talk about is unacceptable, and will result in warnings and/or bannings, as the site admins deem appropriate.
- Avoid gender-biased terms like whore, bitch, bastard. And don’t just substitute milder forms that are still gender-biased. Instead, use more specific words so we know exactly what you mean: by bastard, do you mean “adulterer”, “abuser “jerk” or something else?
- Don’t question the entire purpose of the site, or someone’s motive for writing an article. We don’t come to your site to tell you it’s a waste of time. It gets tiresome and repetitive when people say we “should just not watch what you don’t like”. You can also “just not visit” our site, ‘kay?
- Don’t suggest that we’re suggesting censorship. We’re not. This is an obvious deflecting tactic, not a valid point.
- No spam, of course. We have filters to delete that for us - your comments will probably never even be seen by us, let alone the world.
