Happy International Women’s Day 2012

by Jennifer Kesler on March 8, 2012

International Women’s Day is a UN recognized holiday to celebrate the achievements of women and remind everyone that the struggle for equality – especially on a global scale – has a way to go yet. Each year, it develops a theme, and this year:

The UN theme for International Women’s Day 2012 is Empower Women – End Hunger and Poverty.

This might be a good day to thank the women in your life who have been there for you, helped you to be strong, supported you or even just given a damn. It’s also a good day to ignore the ones who buy into sexism and misogyny. While we should have some pity and understanding of these women, it wouldn’t hurt to take a day to show them what life will be like once the attitudes they subscribe to and profit from have been left in the dust. It might even serve as a wakeup call, who knows.

In any case, celebrate women today!

I was very happy to see that my manager had it marked in her work diary. I don’t think she did anything to mark the occasion in the shop , but it’s still neat to know my manager’s as cool as I’d assumed. :)
